Our Assembly Capabilities
Surface Mount Technology (SMT) SMT assembly is the most widely used method for modern electronics, allowing for high-density component placement and automated production. FAST-PCB’s SMT lines feature:
- Component sizes down to 01005 (0.4mm x 0.2mm)
- Fine-pitch components with lead spacing as small as 0.3mm
- Ball Grid Array (BGA) and Micro-BGA placement
- High-speed placement: up to 50,000 components per hour
- Dual-side SMT assembly capability
Through-Hole Technology (THT) For applications requiring robust mechanical connections or handling high power, through-hole assembly remains essential. Our capabilities include:
- Manual and automated insertion options
- Wave soldering and selective soldering
- Mixed technology assemblies (SMT + THT)
- Radial and axial component insertion
Mixed Technology Assembly Many modern designs require both SMT and THT components. FAST-PCB excels at mixed technology assemblies, optimizing the manufacturing process to ensure quality while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
Assembly Process Overview
1. Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Review Before production begins, our engineering team reviews your design files to identify potential manufacturing issues, optimize component placement, and ensure assembly feasibility. This proactive approach prevents costly delays and quality issues.
2. Material Procurement FAST-PCB can source components on your behalf or work with your supplied materials. We maintain relationships with authorized distributors to ensure genuine components and competitive pricing. Our procurement team verifies all components before assembly begins.
3. Solder Paste Application For SMT assembly, precise solder paste application is crucial. Our automated stencil printers ensure accurate paste deposition according to your specific requirements.
4. Component Placement High-precision pick-and-place machines position components onto the PCB with remarkable accuracy. Our equipment handles everything from tiny passive components to complex ICs and connectors.
5. Reflow Soldering The assembled boards pass through reflow ovens with carefully controlled temperature profiles to ensure proper solder joint formation without damaging sensitive components.
6. Through-Hole Assembly If your design includes through-hole components, technicians insert these parts either manually or using automated insertion equipment, followed by wave or selective soldering.
7. Inspection and Testing Quality control is integrated throughout the assembly process:
- Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) after SMT and THT processes
- X-ray inspection for BGA and hidden solder joints
- In-Circuit Testing (ICT) to verify electrical connections
- Functional testing according to your specifications
8. Conformal Coating (Optional) For boards requiring environmental protection, we apply conformal coating to shield assemblies from moisture, dust, and contaminants.
9. Final Assembly and Packaging Completed assemblies undergo final inspection before secure packaging and shipment to your facility.
